High-Speed Atomic Force Microscopy Imaging of Skin Corneocyte Nanotextures

This foundational study introduces Loretta’s core method: using simple tape-stripping to collect skin samples, followed by ultra-fast imaging (50 times faster than traditional AFM systems—and even quicker in our latest versions!). AI then processes the data to reveal hidden details. Focusing on atopic dermatitis (a skin condition causing irritation and itchiness), the research shows our HS-DAFM delivers results as reliable as standard medical tools. A key highlight is our unique metric: Circular Nano Object (CNO) count. These tiny nanostructures, visible only through nanoscale topography, directly link to skin barrier strength and health—higher counts signal poorer skin condition, like severe atopic dermatitis.
